The Quran describes the home of the Hereafter for the righteous as:

  • secure, free from fear, peaceful (مَقَامٍ أَمِينٍۢ)
  • in gardens and springs
  • dressed in silk and brocade, facing each other
  • they will be married to houris (بِحُورٍ عِينٍۢ
  • having plentiful fruits, in security (بِكُلِّ فَـٰكِهَةٍ ءَامِنِينَ
  • they will not taste death again, except the previous one which they have already experienced, and they will be prevented from the terrible punishment of Hell
  • That is the Grace of your Lord-Sustainer (رَّبِّكَ), that is the ultimate triumph
  • the reminder has been made easy in your language
So, there will be:
  1. security
  2. fertile land
  3. plentiful clean water
  4. luxurious clothing
  5. companionship
  6. delightful family life
  7. food security and abundance
  8. no death or decline
  9. no punishment or fear of punishment
1. Security
Security means there will not be any crime or criminals. There will be no violation of person or property, neither by any individual, nor by any group of people. There will be no fear of enemy attacks. They will neither suffer nor fear any harm.

2. Fertile Land
Gardens imply fertile land on which plentiful vegetation grows in abundance.

3. Plentiful Clean Water
Springs and rivers are sources of water. Especially, springs are sources of clean, pure water.

4. Luxurious Clothing
Silk and brocade are items of luxury, affordable by the very wealthy.

5. Companionship
They will be sitting facing each other implies a great degree of closeness and comfort, a delightful companionship.

6. Delightful Family Life
The Companions of the Gardens will be married to beautiful women, described as 'حُورٍ عِينٍۢ'. This implies a responsible and delightful family life, secure in their love, with the implication of forever together.

7. Food Security & Abundance
The ability to call for fruits whenever wanted means that there will be food security. There will always be an abundance of readily available food.

8. No Death or Decline
In the Hereafter, there will be no death for the Companions of the Gardens. They will continue to enjoy their delightful life as long as the Skies and Earth last, or as Allah  Wills. They will not suffer any decline, nor fear any punishment.

9. No Punishment or Fear of Punishment
As all those who are granted entry into the Gardens of the Hereafter will be pre-judged and pre-assessed, and reformed before being granted entry into their final home, they will be good people. Allah  will not punish them, nor will they have any fear of impeding punishment. They will be secure.

The ayaat quoted above is a description from Surah adDukhan. The life of the Hereafter is described in other ayaat of The Quran as well. There will be grades of dignity depending on how well a person has submitted to Allah ﷻ 's guidance in this life. Their efforts in this life appreciated and rewarded manifold. A perfect investment in a promised future.

The life of this world is to test us. For this purpose, hearing and sight have been made. The guidance to the path is to see who is grateful and who rejects the guidance.

Believers are exhorted to strive with their wealth and their lives in the cause of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى . This involves foremost becoming Muslims to Allah ﷻ 's Deen, then spreading the message of The Quran, inviting to Allah ﷻ 's Deen, enduring, migrating, establishing Allah ﷻ 's Deen, and when called to battle, armed combat to establish Allah ﷻ 's Deen.

By the Mercy and Grace of Allah عزوجل, the Companions of the Hereafter will all be good people, living good lives, free of all the fears and challenges that many people face in this world. They will be blessed with Immortality and a Kingdom that never declines. Forever healthy, forever happy, forever blessed.

That is what we are being reminded of, and that is what we are being invited to: Bliss.

To quote from Surah alInsaan:

The Man (76:20-23)

— Maulana Wahiduddin Khan

76:22

إِنَّ هَـٰذَا كَانَ لَكُمْ جَزَآءًۭ وَكَانَ سَعْيُكُم مَّشْكُورًا ٢٢
