Will Resurrection be Physical or Spiritual?

MSA quoted J and wonders: "Will u be meeting the Lord in person on Judgment Day." - J.
Will the resurrection of humans, Jinns and idols on the Day of Judgment be physical, or their spirits would be raised? An answer to this question will help answer your interesting question!

Answer: In Surah Yasin it states: This Day We will seal [on] their mouths, and will speak to Us their hands, and will bear witness their feet about what they used to earn.

These might also be of some help:
Immortality & A Kingdom that Never Decays

MSA quotes and asks: "In Surah Yasin it states: This Day We will seal [on] their mouths, and will speak to Us their hands, and will bear witness their feet about what they used to earn."
Is the above statement a literal or allegorical one? If it is literal, then would human hands get vocal cords to speak to Allah, and their feet have eyes to bear witness to what the bearers of feet had done during their stay on earth? Kindly respond. Thanks.

My Response: In Surah Fussilat (Explained in Detail), it states:

2 A Revelation from (Allah), Most Gracious, Most Merciful;-
3 A Book, whereof the verses are explained in detail;- a Qur'an in Arabic, for people who understand;-
4 Giving good news and admonition: yet most of them turn away, and so they hear not.

...
19 On the Day that the enemies of Allah will be gathered together to the Fire, they will be marched in ranks.
20 At length, when they reach the (Fire), their hearing, their sight, and their skins will bear witness against them, as to (all) their deeds.
21 They will say to their skins: "Why bear ye witness against us?" They will say: "Allah hath given us speech,- (He) Who giveth speech to everything: He created you for the first time, and unto Him were ye to return.
22 "Ye did not seek to hide yourselves, lest your hearing, your sight, and your skins should bear witness against you! But ye did think that Allah knew not many of the things that ye used to do!
23 "But this thought of yours which ye did entertain concerning your Lord, hath brought you to destruction, and (now) have ye become of those utterly lost!"
24 If, then, they have patience, the Fire will be a home for them! and if they beg to be received into favour, into favour will they not (then) be received.
...
54 Ah indeed! Are they in doubt concerning the Meeting with their Lord? Ah indeed! It is He that doth encompass all things!

This might also be of interest:

In Surah Az-Zumar, it states:

53 Say: "O my Servants who have transgressed against their souls! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah: for Allah forgives all sins: for He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
54 "Turn ye to our Lord (in repentance) and bow to His (Will), before the Penalty comes on you: after that ye shall not be helped.
55 "And follow the best of (the courses) revealed to you from your Lord, before the Penalty comes on you - of a sudden while ye perceive not!-
56 "Lest the soul should (then) say: 'Ah! Woe is me!- In that I neglected (my duty) towards Allah, and was but among those who mocked!'-
57 "Or (lest) it should say: 'If only Allah had guided me, I should certainly have been among the righteous!'-
58 "Or (lest) it should say when it (actually) sees the penalty: 'If only I had another chance, I should certainly be among those who do good!'
59 "(The reply will be:) 'Nay, but there came to thee my Signs, and thou didst reject them: thou wast Haughty, and became one of those who reject faith!'"
60 On the Day of Judgment wilt thou see those who told lies against Allah;- their faces will be turned black; Is there not in Hell an abode for the Haughty?
61 But Allah will deliver the righteous to their place of salvation: no evil shall touch them, nor shall they grieve.
62 Allah is the Creator of all things, and He is the Guardian and Disposer of all affairs.
63 To Him belong the keys of the heavens and the earth: and those who reject the Signs of Allah,- it is they who will be in loss.
64 Say: "Is it some one other than Allah that ye order me to worship, O ye ignorant ones?"
65 But it has already been revealed to thee,- as it was to those before thee,- "If thou wert to join (gods with Allah), truly fruitless will be thy work (in life), and thou wilt surely be in the ranks of those who lose (all spiritual good)".
66 Nay, but worship Allah, and be of those who give thanks.

The Last Trump

L, an atheist/agnostic sent an email titled: Samiya proved right. The email contained the following message and link:
Apparently the Last Trump is being heard around the world...

My response: The Quran speaks of one single blast which will kill and destroy everything, and another which will cause resurrection. When that is to occur, only God has knowledge of it. However, we have been informed that it is approaching closer and closer.
The article you quoted has Biblical quotes. That all scriptures are sent from God is an article of faith for us. However, its better that I leave it to someone else who has studied the Bible in depth to comment upon the end-of-times signs in it.
As regards HAARP, etc, my understanding is that humans will transgress all reasonable bounds to toy with Creation, and try to corrupt the planet and bring harm to it and all who dwell upon it. In the past, many mighty yet criminal nations were warned: when they refused to heed the warnings of the messengers, even though the signs became clear to them, they were then destroyed for their crimes. Scriptures and mythology have many references and legends, and there are many ruins to wonder at what might have been.

I'm posting below some relevant verses/links for your perusal:

http://quran.com/21/1 Their reckoning draweth nigh for mankind, while they turn away in heedlessness.

http://quran.com/7/187 They ask you, [O Muhammad], about the Hour: when is its arrival? Say, "Its knowledge is only with my Lord. None will reveal its time except Him. It lays heavily upon the heavens and the earth. It will not come upon you except unexpectedly." They ask you as if you are familiar with it. Say, "Its knowledge is only with Allah , but most of the people do not know."

http://quran.com/39/68 And the trumpet is blown, and all who are in the heavens and all who are in the earth swoon away, save him whom Allah willeth. Then it is blown a second time, and behold them standing waiting!

http://quran.com/36/48-52  And they say, "When is this promise, if you should be truthful?" They do not await except one blast which will seize them while they are disputing. And they will not be able [to give] any instruction, nor to their people can they return. And the Horn will be blown; and at once from the graves to their Lord they will hasten. They will say, "O woe to us! Who has raised us up from our sleeping place?" [The reply will be], "This is what the Most Merciful had promised, and the messengers told the truth."

http://quran.com/101/1-5 The Calamity! What is the Calamity? Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Calamity is! A day wherein mankind will be as thickly-scattered moths And the mountains will become as carded wool.

http://quran.com/99 When Earth is shaken with her (final) earthquake And Earth yieldeth up her burdens, And man saith: What aileth her? That day she will relate her chronicles, Because thy Lord inspireth her. That day mankind will issue forth in scattered groups to be shown their deeds. And whoso doeth good an atom's weight will see it then, And whoso doeth ill an atom's weight will see it then.

http://quran.com/30/30 So direct your face toward the religion, inclining to truth. [Adhere to] the fitrah of Allah upon which He has created [all] people. No change should there be in the creation of Allah . That is the correct religion, but most of the people do not know.

L asked: That is of course true of all future events (but I expect mean the date is being moved forward?)

My response: No, I don't think the date is being moved - it will happen at its designated time. I think it means that we humans are running out of time. We are here to work for a beautiful eternal future in the Gardens of the Hereafter. If we do not make the necessary effort, we will end up in the Fire due to our own negligence. http://quran.com/21 and http://quran.com/103 may be of interest.

L opined: To be fair most of those collapses are now well explained by archaeologists, generally in terms of what today seem relatively minor ecological catastrophes but at the time were sufficiently devastating that they brought down entire city-states. Of course in those days it was possible to move to a new spot and start again, hence the idea that civilisation is cyclic ... but I think to blame these events on divine intervention would require something other than the currently available evidence, which all seems to point to natural causes (at least if Ronald Wright is to be believed). Obviously these things get mythologised and turned into the wrath of God in retrospect, but that is just normal human nature at work - schadenfreude and all that.

My response: History is mostly 'intelligent' 'educated' guesses at what may have been. The archaeologists may be right or they may be wrong. As I believe the scripture is from God, and as I take it literally, I believe that the ancient civilisations were far mightier and very advanced, perhaps even travelling to space or doing genetic experimentation. I know it sounds like sci-fi and I need to put together some research to back it up, but the more I study the Quran and look at world history and mythology, the more I'm convinced of it. The civilisations which were destroyed must have been transgressing, and corrupting and upsetting the balance in some terrible way to have earned such annihilation. I think that had God not destroyed them, they would have destroyed the planet and perhaps we would not be here today.
Also note that according to the Quran, whenever such punishments were executed, entire nations were obliterated from the face of the Earth -- only the few who had believed the Messengers survived with him.
Why would you expect the Divine intervention to appear through non-natural causes, when all nature is at God's command?

L commented on the Quranic verses: Those mostly sound very similar to the Christian version ("the Last Trump" - in this case meaning trumpet, or a similar instrument). The ultimate wake-up call, which even returns the dead to life. Actually I'm surprised that the Quran's version IS so similar, although I suppose I shouldn't be - we now know that the Middle Eastern religions all have fairly similar origins, I think? Plus links to the Egyptian religion (Jesus=Osiris etc, IIRC) The Christian version involves the dead being resurrected physically, reagrdless of the manner of their death or whether they were buried, cremated, etc. This would cause the appearance of around 100 billion people (if the introduction to "2001" is to be believed). Approximately one for each star in the galaxy. (Maybe God will give each one a solar system of his or her own.)

My response: We believe that all Prophets and Messengers, starting from Adam till Muhammad preached the same message.
Trinity keeps appearing throughout mythology while Monotheism is stressed across all scriptures. The Catholic Trinity seems rooted in the Egyptian Trinity. However, we believe that it is a corruption of the religion preached by Jesus, as he never claimed divinity for himself, nor did he ever do away with any law.
We also believe that all humans since Adam will be resurrected and held accountable for their beliefs and actions. The Quran (http://quran.com/50/16-18) states that there are two angels with each human, who are constantly recording all deeds and that thing is somewhere in the neck (http://quran.com/17/13-15), and it is that record which is removed at death (http://quran.com/56/83-87). Moreover, it states that a perfect record is maintained of whatever happens to the body after death and it will all be recreated (http://quran.com/50/3-4).
I believe we will eventually find out. Lets hope we are blessed with an Earth (planet with gardens) rather than the punishment in a burning ball of Fire.

Life is once in a death experience!

A discussion on death and what it means:
P: Death is a once in a lifetime experience that I look forward to, but I'm in no hurry and have things I wish to get underway (or complete) before embracing it.
M: Does the “soul” die, or just the outer shell called the physical body?
S: Samiya, do I read you as saying there is reincarnation? Do you believe that our eternal souls return to new lives after death? Or did I misread your post? "We will die and again be reborn." (?)

And my views on it:
Life is once in a death experience!
We were dead, then we were born in this world.
We will die and again be re-born.
In this world, death is decreed for all souls; in the hereafter, immortality is decreed... this is about the only thing we can count on... rest is all uncertain! As I understand it, death is like sleep, only prolonged. In the Quran, it is explained as:
It is Allah that takes the souls (of men) at death; and those that die not (He takes) during their sleep: those on whom He has passed the decree of death, He keeps back (from returning to life), but the rest He sends (to their bodies) for a term appointed verily in this are Signs for those who reflect.
(  سورة الزمر  , Az-Zumar, Chapter #39, Verse #42)
I can not speak with any knowledge about the soul's existence without the body, but it appears that it is in a state of sleep, as about resurrection, it is said that: They will say: "Ah! Woe unto us! Who hath raised us up from our beds of repose?"... (A voice will say:) "This is what ((Allah)) Most Gracious had promised. And true was the word of the apostles!"
(  سورة يس  , Ya Seen, Chapter #36, Verse #52)

The way I interpret the scripture, this life on Earth is the first bodily life, hence there was no former bodily existence, rather from non-living(death), we were brought into existence(life). We will taste death again(removal of soul from body), and then given life again(resurrected). However, there is the the concept of some form of existence as the life of this world and the judgment to follow are based upon a responsibility (trust) we humans volunteered for (Quran 33:72,73).

And to give an analogy from this life, God explains: And He it is Who makes the Night as a Robe for you, and sleep as Repose, and makes the Day (as it were) a Resurrection.
(  سورة الفرقان  , Al-Furqan, Chapter #25, Verse #47)

As I replied to M, we will be reborn, but not here, rather in the Hereafter, on the day of retribution, and then life will be eternal. So, its not death which is a finality, rather its life which is a finality, hence its not death that need be feared, rather eternity, as that life, good or bad, will be perpetual! In this life, we atleast taste good times and bad, there it'll be continuously good or bad. So, reincarnation, yes, but with a twist :)

Few verses related to the topic:
Every soul shall have a taste of death: And only on the Day of Judgment shall you be paid your full recompense. Only he who is saved far from the Fire and admitted to the Garden will have attained the object (of Life): For the life of this world is but goods and chattels of deception.
(  سورة آل عمران  , Aal-e-Imran, Chapter #3, Verse #185)
And Allah sends down rain from the skies, and gives therewith life to the earth after its death: verily in this is a Sign for those who listen.
(  سورة النحل  , An-Nahl, Chapter #16, Verse #65)
Then contemplate (O man!) the memorials of Allah's Mercy!- how He gives life to the earth after its death: verily the same will give life to the men who are dead: for He has power over all things.
(  سورة الروم  , Ar-Room, Chapter #30, Verse #50)
It is Allah Who sends forth the Winds, so that they raise up the Clouds, and We drive them to a land that is dead, and revive the earth therewith after its death: even so (will be) the Resurrection!
(  سورة فاطر  , Fatir, Chapter #35, Verse #9)
Know ye (all) that Allah giveth life to the earth after its death! already have We shown the Signs plainly to you, that ye may learn wisdom.
(  سورة الحديد  , Al-Hadid, Chapter #57, Verse #17)

This Life, Resurrection and Retribution

Question: We are knowingly dishonest, morning, noon and night, knowingly and willingly behaving in a less than optimum manner. That behaviour has consequences and it is these consequences that are designed beforehand as safeguards into the Kosmos. They are not decided on a one at a time basis. They are an automated part of the eternal system. No judgment and handing out of customised punishments is involved.

Answer: I had to re-read your post as there are certain sentences that I totally agree with, and those that are quite different to my understanding. For example the above quote…. quite similar to what I’ve been saying when I compare life and predestination to a super computer program. We make choices, and all are coded like if-elseif-else constructs, such that whatever choice we make, it is already known to God, and consequences predestined. How is that different /opposite to the concept of trial? God can, and I believe has, incorporated trial in the software. And how is it punishment? Trial and pre-destination are not punishment. But we have been told that all our choices and intentions are being recorded, and the consequences of which we will receive in after-life. Ofcourse, if one doesn’t believe in after-life, one does not wish to accept this last part……….but if there is no after-life, what is the point or purpose of this life? Also, if there is a majestic Creator who not only created everything but also designed a flawless super program, what is there to stop Him from intervening in His program whenever or however He wishes, both in this world and in the here-after.And since He did create us in the first place, what is there to stop Him from resurrecting us?
