Divorce

Divorce is the legal annulment of the marriage contract between a man and a woman. It is not a happy occasion and involves feelings of resentment, anger and other negative emotions. Without guidance, it is easy to incline to injustice. As such, arbitration, notice period, option for reconciliation, etc. have been detailed in the Quran, to be complied with by both the parties.

Before commencing with the guidance on the subject of divorce in the Quran in Surah alBaqarah, we are told:

وَلَا تَجْعَلُوا اللَّهَ عُرْضَةً لِّأَيْمَانِكُمْ أَن تَبَرُّوا
 وَتَتَّقُوا وَتُصْلِحُوا بَيْنَ النَّاسِ
 وَاللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ

Do not swear by God not to do good things,
or have piety, or make peace among people.
God is All-hearing and All-knowing.
[Al-Quran, 2:224, Translator: Muhammad Sarwar]

-----------------

[Al-Quran, 2:225-233, Translator:Muhammad Sarwar]
2:225 God will not take into account your inattentive oath. However, He will question you about what your hearts have gained. God is All-forgiving and Lenient.
2:226 Those who swear by God not to ever have any carnal relations with their wives (will not be punished), if they decide to resume marital relations again within four months. God is All-forgiving and All-merciful.
2:227 If they choose divorce, God is All-hearing and All-knowing.
2:228 The divorced women must wait up to three menstrual cycles before another marriage. If they believe in God and the Day of Judgment, it is not lawful for them to hide what God has created in their wombs. Within their waiting period their husbands have the right to resume marital relations, if they want reconciliation. Women have benefits as well as responsibilities. Men have a status above women. God is Majestic and Wise.
2:229 A marital relation can only be resumed after the first and second divorce, otherwise it must be continued with fairness or terminated with kindness. It is not lawful for you to take back from women what you have given them unless you are afraid of not being able to observe God's law. In this case, it would be no sin for her to pay a ransom to set herself free from the bond of marriage. These are the laws of God. Do not transgress against them; those who do so are unjust.
2:230 After a divorce for the third time, it is not lawful for the husband to resume marital relations with her or remarry her until she has been married and divorced by another husband. In that case, there is no sin for the former husband to marry her if they (both) think that they can abide by the law. These are the laws of God. He explains them for the people of knowledge.
2:231 When you divorce your wives and their waiting period has almost ended, you may resume marital relations with honor or leave them with kindness. Do not force them to live with you in suffering to satisfy your hostility. Whoever commits such transgressions, he has only harmed himself. Do not make jest of God's words. Remember the favors that God has done to you and the Book and wisdom He has revealed for your guidance. Have fear of God and know that God has knowledge of all things.
2:232 When the waiting period of the divorced women has ended, you (her relatives) must not prevent them from marrying their (previous) husbands again if they might reach an honorable agreement. This is an advice for those of you who believe in God and the Day of Judgment. It is the most beneficial and pure way of treating each other. God knows but you do not know.
2:233 Mothers will breast feed their babies for two years if the fathers want them to complete this term. The father has to pay them reasonable expenses. No soul is responsible for what is beyond its ability. None of the parents should suffer any loss from the other because of the baby. The heirs are responsible to look after the children of a deceased. It is no sin for the parents to have a mutual agreement about weaning the baby. There is no sin in hiring a woman to breast feed your children for a reasonable payment. Have fear of God and know that God is well aware of what you do.
2:234 The wives of those of you who die have to wait for a period of four months and ten days. After this appointed time, it is no sin for the relatives of the deceased to let the widows do what is reasonable. God knows well what you do.
2:235 It is not a sin if you make an indirect marriage proposal or have such an intention in your hearts. God knows that you will cherish their memories in your hearts. Do not have secret dates unless you behave lawfully. Do not decide for a marriage before the appointed time is over. Know that God knows what is in your hearts. Have fear of Him and know that He is All-forgiving and All-merciful.
2:236 Also, it is not a sin if you divorce your wives before the consummation of the marriage or the fixing of the dowry. But the dowry will be due from a husband whether he is rich or poor. It is payable in a reasonable amount according to the husband's financial ability. This is an obligation for the righteous ones.
2:237 If you divorce your wives before the consummation of the marriage and the amount of dowry has been fixed, pay your wives half of the amount of their dowry unless she or her guardians drop their demand for payment. To drop such a demand is closer to piety. Be generous to each other. God is Well-Aware of what you do.
2:238 Pay due attention to your prayers, especially the middle prayer and stand up while praying, in obedience to God.
2:239 In an emergency you may say your prayers while walking or riding; but when you are safe, remember God, as He has taught you what you did not know before.
2:240 Those who are about to die and leave widows behind should bequeath for their wives the expenses of one year's maintenance. The widows must not be expelled from the house for up to one year. It is no sin for the relatives of the deceased to permit the widows to leave the house before the appointed time and do what is reasonable. God is Majestic and Wise.
2:241 The divorced women have the right to receive reasonable provisions. It is an obligation for the pious.
2:242 Thus does God explain His revelations to you so that perhaps you will have understanding.

-----------------

[Al-Quran, 4:35, Translator: Muhammad Sarwar]
4:35 If there appears to be discord between a wife and her husband and if they desire reconciliation choose arbiters from the families of both sides. God will bring them together; God is All-knowing and All-aware.
-----------------

[Al-Quran, 4:128-131, Translator: Muhammad Sarwar]
4:128 If a woman is afraid of her husband's ill treatment and desertion, it will be no sin for both of them to reach a reconciliation. Reconciliation is good even though men's souls are swayed by greed. If you act righteously and be pious, God is Well Aware of what you do.
4:129 You will never be able to maintain justice among your wives and love them all equally, no matter how hard you try. Do not give total preference to one of them, leaving the other as if in suspense. If you do bring about reconciliation and maintain piety, God is All-forgiving and All-merciful.
4:130 If the marriage is terminated, God will make each one of them financially independent. God is Munificent and Wise.
4:131 To God belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth. We have told you and the People of the Book to have fear of God. If you all refuse to believe in Him, know that to God belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth. God is Self-sufficient and Praiseworthy.

-----------------

[Al-Quran, 33:49, Translator: Muhammad Sarwar]
33:49 Believers, if you marry believing women and then divorce them before the consummation of the marriage, they do not have to observe the waiting period. Give them their provisions and set them free in an honorable manner.

-----------------

[Al-Quran, 65:1-12, Translator: Pickthall]
65:1 O Prophet! When ye (men) put away women, put them away for their (legal) period and reckon the period, and keep your duty to Allah, your Lord. Expel them not from their houses nor let them go forth unless they commit open immorality. Such are the limits (imposed by) Allah; and whoso transgresseth Allah's limits, he verily wrongeth his soul. Thou knowest not: it may be that Allah will afterward bring some new thing to pass.
65:2 Then, when they have reached their term, take them back in kindness or part from them in kindness, and call to witness two just men among you, and keep your testimony upright for Allah. Whoso believeth in Allah and the Last Day is exhorted to act thus. And whosoever keepeth his duty to Allah, Allah will appoint a way out for him,
65:3 And will provide for him from (a quarter) whence he hath no expectation. And whosoever putteth his trust in Allah, He will suffice him. Lo! Allah bringeth His command to pass. Allah hath set a measure for all things.
65:4 And for such of your women as despair of menstruation, if ye doubt, their period (of waiting) shall be three months, along with those who have it not. And for those with child, their period shall be till they bring forth their burden. And whosoever keepeth his duty to Allah, He maketh his course easy for him.
65:5 That is the commandment of Allah which He revealeth unto you. And whoso keepeth his duty to Allah, He will remit from him his evil deeds and magnify reward for him.
65:6 Lodge them where ye dwell, according to your wealth, and harass them not so as to straiten life for them. And if they are with child, then spend for them till they bring forth their burden. Then, if they give suck for you, give them their due payment and consult together in kindness; but if ye make difficulties for one another, then let some other woman give suck for him (the father of the child).
65:7 Let him who hath abundance spend of his abundance, and he whose provision is measured, let him spend of that which Allah hath given him. Allah asketh naught of any soul save that which He hath given it. Allah will vouchsafe, after hardship, ease.
65:8 And how many a community revolted against the ordinance of its Lord and His messengers, and We called it to a stern account and punished it with dire punishment,
65:9 So that it tasted the ill-effects of its conduct, and the consequence of its conduct was loss.
65:10 Allah hath prepared for them stern punishment; so keep your duty to Allah, O men of understanding! O ye who believe! Now Allah hath sent down unto you a reminder,
65:11 A messenger reciting unto you the revelations of Allah made plain, that He may bring forth those who believe and do good works from darkness unto light. And whosoever believeth in Allah and doeth right, He will bring him into Gardens underneath which rivers flow, therein to abide for ever. Allah hath made good provision for him.
65:12 Allah it is who hath created seven heavens, and of the earth the like thereof. The commandment cometh down among them slowly, that ye may know that Allah is Able to do all things, and that Allah surroundeth all things in knowledge.

Forced Prostitution

And let those who do not find the means to marry keep chaste until Allah makes them free from want out of His grace.
And (as for) those who ask for a writing from among those whom your right hands possess, give them the writing if you know any good in them, and give them of the wealth of Allah which He has given you;
and do not compel your slave girls to prostitution, when they desire to keep chaste, in order to seek the frail good of this world's life;
and whoever compels them,
then surely after their compulsion Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
[Al-Quran, an-Nur 24:33, Translator: Shakir]

Surah an-Nur begins with the declaration that this surah is obligatory, and the ayaat clearly detailed (Q24:1). The next few ayaat clearly list the punishments and code of conduct in cases of adultery. Yet, not all cases of adultery are voluntary. There are many women, enslaved, even in today's world, who are forced into prostitution by their owners. Allah knows it and offers clear hope to such women who are oppressed and forced into such sinful activities!

The prostitution industry flourishes due to men willing to pay for sexual favours. Q24:33 begins with the directive to unmarried men to keep themselves chaste till they can afford to get married. Elsewhere in The Quran, men are repeatedly exhorted to pay the bridal due when solemnising a marriage (free women: Q4:24, slave women: Q4:25, women of The People of The Book: Q5:5, the Prophet's to-be-wives: Q33:50, female emigrants who have embraced Islam: Q60:10). The only exception to the rule seems to be where permission is granted to marry widows (mothers of orphans) for the sake of the orphans' welfare, and even in such situations the directive is to pay graciously; however the women may remit as per their peculiar situation (Q4:2-6 , Q4:127).

Men have been made protectors of women and are responsible for the financial needs of their women (Q4:34).

Some people argue that payment of bridal due is similar to payment of money to a prostitute. Allah has forbidden sexual relations outside the bond of marriage, and he has enjoined marriage:

وَأَنكِحُوا الْأَيَامَىٰ مِنكُمْ وَالصَّالِحِينَ مِنْ عِبَادِكُمْ وَإِمَائِكُمْ إِن يَكُونُوا فُقَرَاءَ يُغْنِهِمُ اللَّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِ وَاللَّهُ وَاسِعٌ عَلِيمٌ

And marry the single among you and the righteous among your male slaves, and your female slaves. If they are poor, Allah will enrich them from His Bounty. And Allah (is) All-Encompassing, All-Knowing.
[Al-Quran, an-Nur, 24:32]

Menstruation

Question: Is it permissible to miss prayers and skip fasts during menstruation?

Answer:

And they ask you about [the] menstruation. Say, "It (is) a hurt, so keep away (from) [the] women during (their) [the] menstruation. And (do) not approach them until they are cleansed Then when they are purified, then come to them from where has ordered you Allah." Indeed, Allah loves those who turn in and loves those who purify themselves.
Your wives (are) a tilth for you, so come (to) your tilth when you wish, and send forth (good deeds) for yourselves. And be conscious (of) Allah and know that you (will) meet Him. And give glad tidings (to) the believers.
[Al-Quran, 2:222-223

The Quran 2:222 states that menstruation is أَذًى  (a hurt / an injury / trouble). This ayat only forbids sexual relations while a woman is menstruating.
The following are the commandments for fasting and prayers when suffering from hurt, injury or illness

Fasting

Month (of) Ramadhaan (is) that was revealed therein the Quran, a Guidance for mankind and clear proofs of [the] Guidance and the Criterion. So whoever witnesses among you the month, then he should fast in it, and whoever is sick or on a journey then prescribed number (should be made up) from days other. Intends Allah for you [the] ease and not intends for you [the] hardship, so that you complete the prescribed period and that you magnify Allah for [what] He guided you so that you may (be) grateful.
[Al-Quran 2:185]
Prayers

And when you travel in the earth then not upon you (is) any blame that you shorten [of] the prayer if you fear that (may) harm you those who disbelieved. Indeed, the disbelievers are for you an enemy open.
And when you are among them and you lead for them the prayer, then let stand a group of them with you and let them their arms. Then when they have prostrated, then let them be behind you and let come (forward) a group - other, (which has) not prayed, and let them with you and let them their precautions and their arms. Wished those who disbelieved if you neglect [about] your arms and your baggage so (that) they (can) assault [upon] you (in) a single attack. But (there is) no blame upon you if was with you any trouble (because) of rain or you are sick that you lay down your arms, but take your precautions. Indeed, Allah has prepared for the disbelievers a punishment humiliating.
Then when you (have) finished the prayer, then remember Allah standing and sitting and (lying) on your sides. But when you are secure then establish the (regular) prayer. Indeed, the prayer is on the believers prescribed (at) fixed times.
[Al-Quran 4:101-103]

Preparation for Prayer

O you who believe! When you stand up for the prayer, then wash your faces and your hands till the elbows and wipe your heads and your feet till the ankles. But if you are (in) a state of ceremonial impurity then purify yourselves. But if you are ill or on a journey or has come anyone of you from the toilet or has (had) contact (with) the women and not you find water, then do (with) earth clean, then wipe your faces and your hands with it. Allah (does) not intend to make for you any difficulty but He intends to purify you and to complete His Favor upon you so that you may (be) grateful.
[Al-Quran 5:6]

Learnings
It seems from the above quoted ayaat that:
  • menstruation is أَذًى  (a hurt / an injury / trouble).
  • sexual relations are forbidden while a woman is menstruating.
  • it is not permissible to miss الصَّلَاةِ (prayers) in any condition. Even in the battlefield, prayers may be shortened when there is danger, but cannot be missed.
  • سَجَدُوا  (prostrations) cannot be missed even when one is suffering some trouble or illness.
  •  when water is not available or cannot be used for ablution or bath, one should cleanse oneself with clean earth to pray.
  • fasts may be kept later if one is feeling unwell but prayers must not be missed!

May Allah guide us, improve our condition, accept our worship, and be well-pleased with us. Aameen.

Homosexuality, Adultery and Rape

The Quran is explained in detail, and provides guidance on all matters in which we may not be able to legislate appropriately on our own. Sexual orientations, and the sins and crimes associated with it fall under such a category where we get confused and have varied opinions.

Efforts to purify the NAFS is the object of this temporal life; as the womb is central to procreation, guarding it is of great importance.

Homosexuality

If any of your women are guilty of lewdness, Take the evidence of four (Reliable) witnesses from amongst you against them; and if they testify, confine them to houses until death do claim them, or God ordain for them some (other) way.
If two men among you are guilty of lewdness, punish them both. If they repent and amend, Leave them alone; for God is Oft-returning, Most Merciful.
God accept the repentance of those who do evil in ignorance and repent soon afterwards; to them will God turn in mercy: For God is full of knowledge and wisdom.
Of no effect is the repentance of those who continue to do evil, until death faces one of them, and he says, "Now have I repented indeed;" nor of those who die rejecting Faith: for them have We prepared a punishment most grievous.
[Al-Quran, Surah an-Nisa, Ayaat 15-18, Translation: A. Yusuf Ali]

Adultery

A sura which We have sent down and which We have ordained in it have We sent down Clear Signs, in order that ye may receive admonition.
The woman and the man guilty of adultery or fornication,- flog each of them with a hundred stripes: Let not compassion move you in their case, in a matter prescribed by God, if ye believe in God and the Last Day: and let a party of the Believers witness their punishment.
Let no man guilty of adultery or fornication marry and but a woman similarly guilty, or an Unbeliever: nor let any but such a man or an Unbeliever marry such a woman: to the Believers such a thing is forbidden.
And those who launch a charge against chaste women, and produce not four witnesses (to support their allegations),- flog them with eighty stripes; and reject their evidence ever after: for such men are wicked transgressors;-
Unless they repent thereafter and mend (their conduct); for God is Oft- Forgiving, Most Merciful.
And for those who launch a charge against their spouses, and have (in support) no evidence but their own,- their solitary evidence (can be received) if they bear witness four times (with an oath) by God that they are solemnly telling the truth;
And the fifth (oath) (should be) that they solemnly invoke the curse of God on themselves if they tell a lie.
But it would avert the punishment from the wife, if she bears witness four times (with an oath) By God, that (her husband) is telling a lie;
And the fifth (oath) should be that she solemnly invokes the wrath of God on herself if (her accuser) is telling the truth.
If it were not for God's grace and mercy on you, and that God is Oft- Returning, full of Wisdom,- (Ye would be ruined indeed).
Those who brought forward the lie are a body among yourselves: think it not to be an evil to you; On the contrary it is good for you: to every man among them (will come the punishment) of the sin that he earned, and to him who took on himself the lead among them, will be a penalty grievous.
Why did not the believers - men and women - when ye heard of the affair,- put the best construction on it in their own minds and say, "This (charge) is an obvious lie" ?
Why did they not bring four witnesses to prove it? When they have not brought the witnesses, such men, in the sight of God, (stand forth) themselves as liars!
Were it not for the grace and mercy of God on you, in this world and the Hereafter, a grievous penalty would have seized you in that ye rushed glibly into this affair.
Behold, ye received it on your tongues, and said out of your mouths things of which ye had no knowledge; and ye thought it to be a light matter, while it was most serious in the sight of God.
And why did ye not, when ye heard it, say? - "It is not right of us to speak of this: Glory to God! this is a most serious slander!"
God doth admonish you, that ye may never repeat such (conduct), if ye are (true) Believers.
And God makes the Signs plain to you: for God is full of knowledge and wisdom.
Those who love (to see) scandal published broadcast among the Believers, will have a grievous Penalty in this life and in the Hereafter: God knows, and ye know not.
Were it not for the grace and mercy of God on you, and that God is full of kindness and mercy, (ye would be ruined indeed).
O ye who believe! follow not Satan's footsteps: if any will follow the footsteps of Satan, he will (but) command what is shameful and wrong: and were it not for the grace and mercy of God on you, not one of you would ever have been pure: but God doth purify whom He pleases: and God is One Who hears and knows (all things).
Let not those among you who are endued with grace and amplitude of means resolve by oath against helping their kinsmen, those in want, and those who have left their homes in God's cause: let them forgive and overlook, do you not wish that God should forgive you? For God is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
Those who slander chaste women, indiscreet but believing, are cursed in this life and in the Hereafter: for them is a grievous Penalty,-
On the Day when their tongues, their hands, and their feet will bear witness against them as to their actions.
On that Day God will pay them back (all) their just dues, and they will realise that God is the (very) Truth, that makes all things manifest.
Women impure are for men impure, and men impure for women impure and women of purity are for men of purity, and men of purity are for women of purity: these are not affected by what people say: for them there is forgiveness, and a provision honourable.

Rape

Those who annoy God and His Apostle - God has cursed them in this World and in the Hereafter, and has prepared for them a humiliating Punishment.
And those who annoy believing men and women undeservedly, bear (on themselves) a calumny and a glaring sin.
O Prophet! Tell thy wives and daughters, and the believing women, that they should cast their outer garments over their persons (when abroad): that is most convenient, that they should be known (as such) and not molested. And God is Oft- Forgiving, Most Merciful.
Truly, if the Hypocrites, and those in whose hearts is a disease, and those who stir up sedition in the City, desist not, We shall certainly stir thee up against them: Then will they not be able to stay in it as thy neighbours for any length of time:
They shall have a curse on them: whenever they are found, they shall be seized and slain (without mercy).
(Such was) the practice (approved) of God among those who lived aforetime: No change wilt thou find in the practice (approved) of God.

The Qur'an

And not is this the Quran, that (it could be) produced by other than Allah,
but (it is) a confirmation (of that) which (was) before it and a detailed explanation (of) the Book,
(there is) no doubt in it, from (the) Lord (of) the worlds.

The Qur'an is a beautiful whole with all parts interlinked. It merits serious attention, study and contemplation. It is a reminder from the one true God. It informs us of our purpose here, where we came from and where we are headed!

Similarly, other scriptures were revealed prior to the Qur'an. Suhuf-e-Ibrahim, Suhuf-e-Musa/Taurat, Zubur and Injeel are mentioned by name in the Qur'an.

Some people are able to take faith and guidance from the scriptures, while others can't even begin to make sense of it. The Qur'an itself informs us that it is Allah who decides who will be able to take guidance from the Qur'an and who will not be able to be guided by it. Much as the Believers try to convince everyone else about the truth of this message, only those whom Allah permits will be able to understand and pay heed. Others will simply bypass the Signs without comprehending them. It appears that this decision of Allah is based upon a certain knowledge and a past that we do not have any conscious memory of.

The Qur'an clearly informs us that the life of this world is to test and make evident those who claim(ed) belief. Those who believe and earn good through their deeds are promised forgiveness and inheritance of the Gardens of Eden. Those who have already disbelieved or choose to ignore the Qur'an, God will not compel them to guidance. However, they are amply warned of the consequence of their disbelief, and a lifetime to gather evidence for or against themselves.

The Believers are responsible for sharing their knowledge about the religion with others. However, they must remember that all they can do is share. They cannot make people believe! Each and every person will be held responsible for his/her self. Nobody will suffer any injustice on the Day of Judgement.

Complete List of Everything Halal

Someone on Quora asked: Is there a complete list of everything halal?

Answer: al-Baqarah 2:168 O mankind! Eat of what (is) in the earth lawful (and) good. And (do) not follow (the) footsteps (of) the Shaitaan. Indeed, he (is) to you an enemy clear.
al-Baqarah 2:219 They ask you about [the] intoxicants and [the] games of chance Say, "In both of them (is) a sin great, and (some) benefits for [the] people. But sin of both of them (is) greater than (the) benefit of (the) two." And they ask you what they (should) spend. Say, "The surplus." Thus makes clear Allah to you [the] Verses so that you may ponder,
The following explains the directives in 2:168 and 2:219
al-Ma`idah 5:3 - al-Ma`idah 5:5 Are made unlawful on you the dead animals, and the blood, and flesh (of) the swine, and what has been dedicated to other than Allah, [on it], and that which is strangled (to death), and that which is hit fatally, and that which has a fatal fall, and that which is gored by horns, and that which ate (it) the wild animal except what you slaughtered, and what is sacrificed on the stone altars, and that you seek division by divining arrows - that (is) grave disobedience. This day (have) despaired those who disbelieved of your religion, so (do) not fear them, but fear Me. This day I have perfected for you your religion and I have completed upon you My Favor and I have approved for you [the] Islam (as) a religion. But whoever (is) forced by hunger (and) not inclining to sin, then indeed, Allah (is) Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. They ask you what (is) made lawful for them. Say, "Are made lawful for you the good things and what you have taught (your) hunting animals, ones who train animals to hunt, you teach them of what Allah has taught you. So eat of what they catch for you, but mention (the) name (of) Allah on it, and fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is swift (in taking) account. This day are made lawful for you the good things; and (the) food (of) those who were given the Book (is) lawful for you, and your food (is) lawful for them. And the chaste women from the believers and the chaste women from those who were given the Book before you, when you have given them their bridal due, being chaste not being lewd and not ones (who are) taking secret lovers. And whoever denies the faith - then surely (are) wasted his deeds and he, in the Hereafter, (will be) among the losers.
al-Ma`idah 5:90 O you who believe! Verily the intoxicants and [the] games of chance and (sacrifices at) altars and divining arrows (are an) abomination from (the) work (of) the Shaitaan, so avoid it so that you may (be) successful.
al-Ma`idah 5:96 Lawful to you is the pursuit of water-game and its use for food,- for the benefit of yourselves and those who travel; but forbidden is the pursuit of land-game;- as long as ye are in the sacred precincts or in pilgrim garb. And fear Allah, to Whom ye shall be gathered back. [Translation: Yusuf Ali]
The following recaps it thus:
al-An`am 6:145 Say, "I (do) not find in what has been revealed to me (anything) forbidden to an eater who eats it except that it be dead or blood poured forth or (the) flesh (of) swine - for indeed, it (is) filth - or (it be) disobedience, [is] dedicated to other than Allah [on it]. But whoever (is) compelled not desiring and not transgressing, then indeed, your Lord (is) Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."

Grave sin to not to mention God's name[Al-Qur'an 6:118119120121, Translation: Literal (word by word)] So eat of what (is) mentioned (the) name (of) Allah on it, if you are in His Verses - believers. And what for you that not you eat of what has been mentioned Allah's name on it, when indeed, He (has) explained in detail to you what He (has) forbidden to you except what you are compelled to it. And indeed, many surely lead astray by their (vain) desires without knowledge. Indeed, your Lord, He (is) most knowing of the transgressors. Forsake open [the] sins and the secret. Indeed, those who earn [the] sin they will be recompensed for what they used to commit. And (do) not eat of that, not has been mentioned Allah's name on it, and indeed, it (is) grave disobedience. And indeed, the devils inspire to their friends so that they dispute with you, and if you obey them, indeed, you (would) be the polytheists.
Though the above quoted verse from Surah Al-Anaam (Q6: The Cattle), with reference to context, seems to be about meat being slaughtered while pronouncing the name of Allah upon it, the verses quoted from Q36, Surah Ya'sin, exhort us to be grateful for all the food we eat.

Suffering & God's Grace

Someone on Quora asked: If religious people have god's grace, why do they suffer?
I have a friend who says she has embraced Jesus. But she is always hurt in one or the other way though she is one of the kindest people in the world. I find it really ironic and sad. She is not only religious, she does good things too.

Answer:
al-Baqarah 2:214 Or (do) you think that you will enter Paradise while not (has) come to you like (came to) those who passed away from before you? Touched them [the] adversity and [the] hardship, and they were shaken until said the Messenger and those who believed with him, "When [will] (the) help (of) Allah (come) Unquestionably, [Indeed] help (of) Allah (is) near.

An excerpt from al-Ahzaab which explains through an example of a battle the Believers were faced with, and then an excerpt from al-Jumu’a to understand what is God’s grace:

al-Ahzaab 7 And when We exacted a covenant from the prophets, and from thee (O Muhammad) and from Noah and Abraham and Moses and Jesus son of Mary. We took from them a solemn covenant; 8 That He may ask the loyal of their loyalty. And He hath prepared a painful doom for the unfaithful. 9 O ye who believe! Remember Allah's favour unto you when there came against you hosts, and We sent against them a great wind and hosts ye could not see. And Allah is ever Seer of what ye do. 10 When they came upon you from above you and from below you, and when eyes grew wild and hearts reached to the throats, and ye were imagining vain thoughts concerning Allah. 11 There were the believers sorely tried, and shaken with a mighty shock. 12 And when the hypocrites, and those in whose hearts is a disease, were saying: Allah and His messenger promised us naught but delusion. 13 And when a party of them said: O folk of Yathrib! There is no stand (possible) for you, therefor turn back. And certain of them (even) sought permission of the Prophet, saying: Our homes lie open (to the enemy). And they lay not open. They but wished to flee. 14 If the enemy had entered from all sides and they had been exhorted to treachery, they would have committed it, and would have hesitated thereupon but little. 15 And verily they had already sworn unto Allah that they would not turn their backs (to the foe). An oath to Allah must be answered for. 16 Say: Flight will not avail you if ye flee from death or killing, and then ye dwell in comfort but a little while. 17 Say: Who is he who can preserve you from Allah if He intendeth harm for you, or intendeth mercy for you. They will not find that they have any friend or helper other than Allah. 18 Allah already knoweth those of you who hinder, and those who say unto their brethren: "Come ye hither unto us!" and they come not to the stress of battle save a little, 19 Being sparing of their help to you (believers). But when the fear cometh, then thou (Muhammad) seest them regarding thee with rolling eyes like one who fainteth unto death. Then, when the fear departeth, they scald you with sharp tongues in their greed for wealth (from the spoil). Such have not believed. Therefor Allah maketh their deeds fruitless. And that is easy for Allah. 20 They hold that the clans have not retired (for good); and if the clans should advance (again), they would fain be in the desert with the wandering Arabs, asking for the news of you; and if they were among you, they would not give battle, save a little. 21 Verily in the messenger of Allah ye have a good example for him who looketh unto Allah and the Last Day, and remembereth Allah much. 22 And when the true believers saw the clans, they said: This is that which Allah and His messenger promised us. Allah and His messenger are true. It did but confirm them in their faith and resignation. 23 Of the believers are men who are true to that which they covenanted with Allah. Some of them have paid their vow by death (in battle), and some of them still are waiting; and they have not altered in the least; 24 That Allah may reward the true men for their truth, and punish the hypocrites if He will, or relent toward them (if He will). Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. 25 And Allah repulsed the disbelievers in their wrath; they gained no good. Allah averted their attack from the believers. Allah is ever Strong, Mighty. 26 And He brought those of the People of the Scripture who supported them down from their strongholds, and cast panic into their hearts. Some ye slew, and ye made captive some. 27 And He caused you to inherit their land and their houses and their wealth, and land ye have not trodden. Allah is ever Able to do all things.

al-Jumu’a 1 Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth declares the glory of Allah, the King, the Holy, the Mighty, the Wise. 2 He it is Who raised among the inhabitants of Mecca an Apostle from among themselves, who recites to them His communications and purifies them, and teaches them the Book and the Wisdom, although they were before certainly in clear error, 3 And others from among them who have not yet joined them; and He is the Mighty, the Wise. 4 That is Allah's grace; He grants it to whom He pleases, and Allah is the Lord of mighty grace.

The reward of the Believers is inheritance of the Gardens in the Hereafter. Please read Immortality & A Kingdom that Never Decays.
