Abrogation is Oppression

when laws and rights are waived

An-Nisa (4:15-18)
4:15
Those who commit immorality [i.e., unlawful sexual intercourse] of your women - bring against them four [witnesses] from among you. And if they testify,[1] confine them [i.e., the guilty women] to houses until death takes them or Allāh ordains for them [another] way.[2]
— Saheeh International
[1]The witnesses must swear to actually having seen the act taking place.
[2]The "other way" (i.e., penalty) was later revealed in 24:2, canceling the ruling in this verse.
— Maulana Wahiduddin Khan

4:16
And the two[1] who commit it [i.e., unlawful sexual intercourse] among you - punish [i.e., dishonor] them both. But if they repent and correct themselves, leave them alone. Indeed, Allāh is ever Accepting of Repentance and Merciful.
— Saheeh International
[1]Scholars differ over whether "the two" refers to two of the same sex (i.e., homosexuals) or those of opposite sexes. In either case, later rulings outlined in the sunnah have replaced this one.
— Maulana Wahiduddin Khan

4:17
The repentance accepted by Allāh is only for those who do wrong in ignorance [or carelessness] and then repent soon [after].[1] It is those to whom Allāh will turn in forgiveness, and Allāh is ever Knowing and Wise.
— Saheeh International
[1]Scholars have also interpreted "soon" to mean before death.
— Maulana Wahiduddin Khan

4:18
But repentance is not [accepted] of those who [continue to] do evil deeds up until, when death comes to one of them, he says, "Indeed, I have repented now," or of those who die while they are disbelievers. For them We have prepared a painful punishment.
— Saheeh International
— Maulana Wahiduddin Khan

Surah anNisa (the Women) discusses many critical issues related to the weak among the society. It does not absolve anyone of their responsibilities, but it also does not allow oppression. Women have responsibilities and men have responsibilities. Moral Responsibilities, Ethical Responsibilities, Financial Responsibilities, Physical Responsibilities, Mental Responsibilities. Responsibilities towards, Allah, and Responsibilities towards Society.
Fulfilling Responsibilities ensures Rights.
Abrogating them gives rise to oppression.
Wombs, orphans, widows, laws of inheritance, illicit relationships and repentance from such relationships, marriage and lawful for marriage, responsibilities and rights, and many more topics are discussed in Surah anNisa.
When the rights of people are trampled upon, when rights are withheld, there is oppression.
Historically, the weaker sex (the women) have been oppressed, their due rights withheld, and they objectified for servitude and pleasure. Moreover, even now, as the world is once again moving towards, and adopting the secular way of life, the institution of marriage is crumbling. Men do not wish to undertake the financial responsibilities the law requires of them. Yet, they have the biological need to mate. So, they turn towards illicit consensual relationships.
These days it is girlfriend-boyfriend, few centuries ago it was mistress-master, femaleSlave-maleOwner, and who knows all the forms in the eras bygone.
Human biology remains the same. The human body and the human soul, both have their need and wants. When desires are fulfilled outside the bounds of law, the security that the law provides becomes unenforceable. Not only do women suffer, but also the children born out of such relationships, and eventually society. All forms of oppression creep in. Women then need to provide for themselves, and we can see the kind of problems such religious lawlessness has led to in Western societies.
Allah created humans, and Allah decreed His Deen. The Deen is Islam. Islam means submission to the Laws of Allah. Allah has decreed:

An-Nisa (4:19-28)
4:19
O you who believe, it is not lawful for you that you should forcibly take women as inheritance. Do not hold on to them so that you may take away some of what you have given them, unless they commit a clearly shameful act. Live with them in the recognized manner. If you dislike them, then it is quite likely that you dislike something and Allah has placed a lot of good in it.
— T. Usmani
O you who have believed, it is not lawful for you to inherit women by compulsion.[1] And do not make difficulties for them in order to take [back] part of what you gave them[2] unless they commit a clear immorality [i.e., adultery]. And live with them in kindness. For if you dislike them - perhaps you dislike a thing and Allāh makes therein much good.
— Saheeh International
[1]At the time of marriage as mahr.
[2]The deceased man's heirs have no rights of marriage or otherwise over his widow.
— Maulana Wahiduddin Khan

4:20
If you want to take a wife in place of the one (you have), and you have given her plenty of wealth, then do not take any of it back. Would you take it through imputation and open sin?
— T. Usmani
But if you want to replace one wife with another and you have given one of them a great amount [in gifts], do not take [back] from it anything. Would you take it in injustice and manifest sin?
— Saheeh International
— Maulana Wahiduddin Khan

4:21
How can you take it when you have had access to each other and they have taken a firm covenant from you?
— T. Usmani
And how could you take it while you have gone in unto each other and they have taken from you a solemn covenant?
— Saheeh International
— Maulana Wahiduddin Khan

4:22
Do not marry those women whom your fathers had married except what has passed. It is indeed shameful and detestable, and it is an evil practice.
— T. Usmani
And do not marry those [women] whom your fathers married, except what has already occurred.[1] Indeed, it was an immorality and hateful [to Allāh] and was evil as a way.
— Saheeh International
[1]Before Islām. After the ruling was revealed by Allāh, men were required to release those women unlawful to them (e.g., a stepmother, one of two sisters, or any wives over the limit of four). The same obligation applies to one once he has accepted Islām.
— Maulana Wahiduddin Khan

4:23
Prohibited for you are your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, your paternal aunts, your maternal aunts, daughters of brother, daughters of sister, your mothers who suckled you, your sisters through suckling, mothers of your wives and your step-daughters under your care who are born of your women with whom you have had intercourse,-though if you have not had intercourse with them, there is no sin on you,-and the wives of your sons from your loins, and that you combine two sisters (in wedlock), except what has passed. Surely, Allah is Most-Forgiving, Very-Merciful.
— T. Usmani

But if you have not gone in unto them, there is no sin upon you. And [also prohibited are] the wives of your sons who are from your [own] loins, and that you take [in marriage] two sisters simultaneously, except for what has already occurred.[1] Indeed, Allāh is ever Forgiving and Merciful.

(Also prohibited are) the women already bound in marriage, except the bondwomen you come to own. It has been written by Allah for you. All (women), except these, have been permitted for you to seek (to marry) through your wealth, binding yourself, (in marriage) and not only for lust. So, to those of them whose company you have enjoyed, give their dues (dower) as obligated. There is no sin on you in what you mutually agree upon after the (initial) agreement. Surely, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
— T. Usmani
And [also prohibited to you are all] married women except those your right hands possess.[1] [This is] the decree of Allāh upon you. And lawful to you are [all others] beyond these, [provided] that you seek them [in marriage] with [gifts from] your property, desiring chastity, not unlawful sexual intercourse. So for whatever you enjoy [of marriage] from them, give them their due compensation[2] as an obligation. And there is no blame upon you for what you mutually agree to beyond the obligation. Indeed, Allāh is ever Knowing and Wise.
— Saheeh International
[1]i.e., slaves or war captives who had polytheist husbands.
[2]The mahr, a specified gift to the bride required of the man upon marriage.
— Maulana Wahiduddin Khan

4:25
If one cannot afford to marry the free Muslim women, then (he may marry) the one you people own of your Muslim girls. Allah knows best about your faith. You are similar to each other. So, marry them with the permission of their masters, and give them their dues, as recognized, they being bound in marriage, not going for lust, nor having paramours. So, once they have been bound in marriage, then, if they commit a shameful act, they shall be liable to half of the punishment prescribed for the free women. That is for those of you who apprehend to indulge in sin. But that you be patient is better for you. Allah is Most-Forgiving, Very-Merciful.
— T. Usmani
And whoever among you cannot [find] the means to marry free, believing women, then [he may marry] from those whom your right hands possess of believing slave girls. And Allāh is most knowing about your faith. You [believers] are of one another. So marry them with the permission of their people and give them their due compensation [i.e., mahr] according to what is acceptable. [They should be] chaste, neither [of] those who commit unlawful intercourse randomly nor those who take [secret] lovers. But once they are sheltered in marriage, if they should commit adultery, then for them is half the punishment for free [unmarried] women. This [allowance] is for him among you who fears affliction [i.e., sin], but to be patient is better for you. And Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.
— Saheeh International

In Surah AlMu'minun, The Quran describes the salient qualities of The Believers:

Al-Mu'minun (23:5-7)
23:5
and who guard their private parts
— T. Usmani
And they who guard their private parts
— Saheeh International
— Maulana Wahiduddin Khan

23:6
except from their wives or from those (bondwomen who are) owned by their hands, as they are not to be blamed.
— T. Usmani
Except from their wives or those their right hands possess,[1] for indeed, they will not be blamed -
— Saheeh International
[1]Female slaves or captives under their ownership.
— Maulana Wahiduddin Khan

23:7
However, those who seek (sexual pleasure) beyond that are the transgressors
— T. Usmani
But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors -
— Saheeh International
— Maulana Wahiduddin Khan

The oppressor oppresses the weak.
The weak can agree to be oppressed, or resist being oppressed.
Resisting oppression benefits society, improving the way of life, or at least granting courage and hope to others who are also being oppressed.
In the context of sexual relationships, a woman who refuses to indulge in an out-of-law sexual relationship, is upholding not only divine law, but also the rights of women to be taken care of by the men Allah has designated for their care, be they their father, brother, husband or son. These male relationships are required to protect the woman and take care of her needs, and more, depending on financial and other factors.
We do not live in the ideal world, but we have to try and build an ideal home: the building block of an ideal society.
